5 Ways to Spring Clean Your Brand

Is your brand suffering from the winter blahs? Good news — the sun’s out and pretty things are blooming everywhere, which means it’s the perfect time to do a brand review and refresh/spruce up/ditch/launch a thing or two in order to enhance your strategy. Here are five easy ways to spring clean your brand:

1. Take out the trash

Your first and best tool in getting organized is the good ol’ trash bag! Consider all of the different aspects of your marketing and branding strategy; right from your web and print ads, to your social media activities, to the small projects you still keep up with even though you’re not even quite sure why anymore. If there are things that just aren’t working, think about letting them go to create space to try other tactics that will help drive business. It can be tough to give up on some ideas you love, but sometimes we have to let go of the good to make room for the great!

2. Do a goal audit

Do a bit of a marketing audit with your web and print materials. Is your branding consistent across the board? Is your social media presence frequently updated, relevant and interesting? Are you keeping up with the business goals you set at the beginning of the year? Touch in on where you wanted to be versus where you’re at, and revise or refresh your goals as necessary. There’s no rule that says you have to wait until January 1, 2017, to resolve to improve something!

3. Re-evaluate your audience

When’s the last time you took a good look at the profile of your ideal client in comparison to the clients you’re getting? If the two aren’t matching up, take a fresh look at your audience and make a plan to go after markets that can become a source of new business. Creating personas is a great exercise in helping to define your audience.

4. Update your offerings

In today’s world, client needs are evolving on an ongoing basis. Spring is a great time to take a step back and have a closer look at the markets you serve and study industry trends. What are your competitors serving up that you’re not? Are there services or products you need to start promoting or offering in order to better serve your customer base? Ensure you’re keeping pace — while doing what works best for you and your biz, of course.

5. Spruce up your social media profiles

Outdated social media profiles are a common branding mistake that fortunately can be easily fixed! Refresh all of your social media profiles this time of year by making sure you have added a current photo, website URL, and updated ‘About’ bio. If you have a portfolio or gallery, add new projects or work. Give your cover and header images a makeover, if they need one. A cohesive visual brand makes all the difference, so if you’re lacking an eye-catching logo, colour scheme, type palette, etc, there’s no time like the present to get your official brand in place!

Hopefully, in the course of spring cleaning your brand, you’ll also see all the areas where you’re kicking butt with your strategy. Give yourself a pat on the back for all the great things you’re doing! And then, think about ways you can build on that — start a blog, launch an e-newsletter, create a new brand hashtag… Get creative!
